November 17, 2021: Virtual Training on Social Security.

“Social Security” has been recognized as an instrument for social transformation and progress and must be preserved, supported and developed as such. Social security organized on a firm and sound basis will promote progress, it can help to make people capable of earning an income and to increase their productive potential; it may help to maintain effective demand at the national level; and it may help create conditions in which a market economy can flourish, notably by encouraging workers to accept innovation and change. Finally, it reinforces social cohesion and therefore contributes to building social peace, inclusive societies and a fair globalization by ensuring decent living conditions for all. Thus social security is an instrument for social transformation and good governance.

In a globalizing world, in which individuals are exposed to ever-greater economic risks, it is for each country to set out minimum standards of protection to guide the development of benefit schemes and national social security systems, based on good practices. Designing, financing, implementation, governance and evaluation of social security schemes and systems, in accordance with a rights-based approach are inevitable. In this light, the Bhutan National Legal Institute in collaboration with National Law University, Jodhpur is organizing a virtual training to the judges on social security from 17 – 19 November 2021. The three-day training focuses upon the latest developments taking place in the arena of Social Security, which would act as a refresher to the existing knowledge base and thus would allow the Judges to be apprised about the current position of laws, the recent changes and the judicial trends. The training is financed by Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
